It’s been just over a week and I’ve given up on the My Daily Geek posts! It wasn’t entirely my fault as I’ve been ill for the last few days so I haven’t been able to muster the energy to sit down in front of the computer. I have decided instead to bring back the Geekly News posts!

Every week I will be bringing you a round up of all the geeky news stories that have caught my eye. I won’t cover everything and there may be some big things I will miss out but I’m only one man!

So without further ado what’s been going on this week?

Bad Joke?

The Joker is here! If you’ve used the internet this week it would have been difficult to miss news on the Clown Prince of Crime. Todd Phillips‘ take on the Joker is in the middle of filming and it seems a new image, set video or test screening gets leaked every day. Many were sceptical about a standalone Joker film being made that seemingly has no connection wit the current DCEU films but some of those worries have been put to rest since seeing the below reveals!

Be warned these are not official reveals so SPOILERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This film is shaping up to be an incredibly creepy comic book movie experience. Joaquin Phoenix definitely looks the part but until we get an official trailer or poster we aren’t really going to be able to tell what mood the film will have. It’s an origin so we could see something unlike any other version of the character. I am still undecided on this film, but looking forward to seeing more in the future!

DD Returns!

The Marvel Netflix machine is still going strong and most people agree that the last two instalments, Luke Cage and Iron Fist season 2, were large improvements on their respective first seasons. Well now it’s time for the flagship show to return, Daredevil season 3 finally has a release date and take much closer than expected!

As can be seen by these new posters, season 3 will be arriving on 19th October. To whet our appetite we also got a little teaser to go with it!

I am beyond excited for this new season and sincerely hope that it moves away from the mystical ‘Hand’ stuff and gets back to something more in line with season 1, a bit grittier, more realistic. The return of Wilson Fisk could indicate this is the way things are going, not to mention a certain Bullseye making his debut in the show! Only a few weeks stand between us and the return of Matthew Murdock.

Kingsman  – Third time’s the charm?

The first Kingsman film was amazing, a unique take on the spy action thriller, with the Mark Millar twist. The sequel was not. It went way over the top with action, effects and some downright bizarre story elements, not to mention the incessant Elton John cameos. It did however, expand the Kingsman universe and this is no more evident than in the confirmation that Kingsman 3 is set for release on November 9, 2019. Matthew Vaughan is returning to write and direct and I just hope they don’t turn it up to 11 too much. I’m all for ridiculous action and comedy hi jinks but Kingsman 2 was just silly.

Bad Romance!

A news story that surprised a lot of people, it has been confirmed that the script for the Joker/Harley Quinn movie is complete! Nothing has been heard about this film since it was announced last year but it looks like things are still moving along. Glenn Ficarra and John Requa are the men behind the pen with Jared Leto and Margot Robbie expected to reprise their roles with the latter describing the film as “romantic, but in a messed up way”

I’m still yet to find someone who actually wants this film and with other ‘Joker’ productions on the way, will the minimal interest in this project wane even more? Still no word as to when this film will be released and I wouldn’t be surprised if this is another DCEU project that slips away quietly.

It’s Child’s Play

Speaking of things no one wants, here’s the first image for the new Child’s Play. If you’re anything like me you may not have been aware that a reboot was planned! Especially considering the original series is still making money! We’re not going to dwell on this too much, but rest assured, any film about a possessed toy is going to be creepy!

Telltale as old as Time

The video game industry is fickle. Companies come and go, get absorbed by others or just stop altogether. Unfortunately, one that fits into the last category is Telltale Games. After years of critical success, the studio is to close its doors. Please see the following statement and try not to cry too much:

I don’t read many new comics these days, tending to pic up the collected editions months later, so this story isn’t from personal experience. In a recent DC comic titled Batman: Damned, readers were presented with a fully nude Bruce Wayne as he checked for stab wounds after returning to the Batcave.

Due to some clever lighting used in the panels Batman’s little (or not so little as the case may be) vigilante is clearly visible. DC have since released censored versions of the comic but there are plenty of original copies out there. Was this a necessary inclusion? Did it add anything to the story? Was it just a way to sell more issues? Who knows, it’s definitely got people talking!

Kevin’s F-Men

In an announcement that surprised no one, Marvel Studios CEO, Kevin Feige, will be overseeing the X-Men franchise under the Disney umbrellas following the Fox acquisition. Disney CEO Bob Iger revealed the news in an interview published by The Hollywood Reporter.

That’s your lot for this week, tune in next time when I might have another round up for you!
