Ooh Boy it’s been a good weekend! If you’re reading this then I’m sure you’re aware that the D23 Expo has been underway for the last couple of days. It’s basically A Disney specific Comic Con where they showcase al their big news for the coming years be it films, parks or merchandise, this is the place to be if you’re a Disney Fan! Unfortunately much like next weeks San Diego Comic Con it’s halfway across the world so we have to rely of the wonderful social media to get our news!

Now that Disney includes Marvel and Star Wars I am a happy fanboy! We have had so much awesomeness from this event and though some of it hasn’t been officially released to the public yet let’s see what we know!

I’m going to focus on the film news but for starters let’s talk about the parks!

Star Wars Land

We got our best look yet at the new Star Wars Land coming to Disney World Florida. Take a look at the video below showing a scale model of the park, it looks frigging awesome!! I hope one day that I’ll be able to visit but for now I’ll watch the video in awe!

Incredibles 2 Concept Art

Not much news on the animation front but we have had the first official piece of concept art released for Incredibles 2. Reportedly picking up immediately after the events of the first film, all the main characters will be back and presumably this means they will be fighting the Underminer who appeared in the final scene if The Incredibles. Does the poster give us a hint at other superheroes ? You decide! No surprises here really but exciting all the same.

A Wrinkle in Time Trailer

I know little to nothing about this film but the trailer looks pretty good! A big cast as well, most of whole appeared on stage at the D23 live action panel. Chris Pine, Reese Witherspoon, Oprah Winfrey, Mindy Kaling and Storm Reid joined the director Ava DuVernay to show off the film which looks to be doing some very interesting things with time and space! Visually impressive but I have a feeling it’s pitched at the same market as Tomorrowland, and we saw how well that did! (If you didn’t let’s just say not well!)

First look at The Wasp

Every big convention room these days has countless displays and posters hanging from the ceiling usually advertising companies or upcoming films. The D23 Expo is no different and this is where we saw our first look at The Wasp from the upcoming Antman and the Wasp. Very reminiscent of the original Wasp features in the Antman flashback sequence and very few visual changes from the tease at the end of the film, apart from a change of colour scheme but it’s good to see another awesome female character being shown off!!

Black Panther Costumes

Nothing new here but it’s the best look we have had at some of the outfits from the upcoming Black Panther film. All of them look incredible, beautifully crafted and I can’t wait to see them on the big screen. The colours are incredible and it’s very clear the design has been influenced by different tribal communities from across the world. Awesome!

Thor Ragnarok Posters

As far as I’m aware there was no new Ragnarok footage shown at the live action panel but we have had a couple of posters from the event. Nothing we haven’t seen before but more of the Hulk and Thor looking fantastic. Also a look as some of the outfits featured in the film!

Thanos and the Dark Order/Children of Thanos statues

What some people thought (and maybe hoped) would be a surprise Fantastic Four reveal, some mysterious statues were unveiled to be Thanos and the Black Order who are being referred to as the Children of Thanos. Does this mean they are the siblings of Gamora and Nebula?  From left to right; Corvus Glaive, Proxima Midnight, The Ebony Maw, and Black Dwarf. These statues look incredible! I’ve seen some set photos of actors doing mo-cap fighting some avengers so it’s a good bet some of these characters get into some action! They certainly look like they are ready for it! Oh and Josh Brolin stopped by for a visit with the Infinity Gauntlet!!!

Wreck it Ralph 2 Footage

Now I’ve got pretty much nothing to show you on this little item but reportedly some Wreck it Ralp 2: Ralph Breaks the Internet footage was shown at the Expo and has Ralph meeting up with a whole bunch of Disney Princesses and bringing together both Marvel and Star Wars stuff all in the same film!! Very Very Exciting!! Below you’ll see the lovely ladies that will be voicing the princesses! Notice Kristen Bell in there, will we be seeing Anna from Frozen?

Live Action Everything!

The first big reveal at the live-action panel was Disney’s slate of films for the next couple of years! Most of these we knew about but there were a couple of confirmed movies that had been previously circling the rumour mill! Check out the photo below to see a confirmed live-action Dumbo film, directed by Tim Burton! The Han Solo film still without an official title, Frozen 2 and slightly amended logos for both the Avengers films. You will also see the logo for the live-action Lion King film. This has been known about for some time but we have started to get some casting news as well. John Oliver has been cast as Zazu and James Earl Jones is set to return as Mufassa. One thing that was all over the internet yesterday was that Hugh Jackman had been cast as Scar! While still not actually confirmed, this would be amazing!

Lion King Footage

Speaking of Lion King, the audience got their first look at some footage from the film itself! It apparently showed the intro with baby Simba and it looked (by all accounts) beautiful! I still don’t understand how it can be ‘live-action’ when there aren’t any human actors in it. Surely the whole film is just really well rendered CGI? Or have I misunderstood?

Mary Poppins Teaser

Just like the Lion King, the people in attendance at the panel got to see the first trailer for the Mary Poppins sequel, starring Emily Blunt.  The rest of us have a little teaser to keep us going for now (below).  The trailer reportedly shows the film set 20 years after the first with Jane and Michael Banks now grown and living in the Great Depression. Mary Poppins has returned to help them out and presumably go on some jaunty adventures!

Aladdin, Jasmine and Genie Casting

Not announced on the live-action panel but interesting none the less, the live-action remake of Aladdin has cast its main stars. Will Smith, long rumoured to be playing the Genie was indeed confirmed to be living inside the lamp (and I can’t decide how I feel about it yet), Mena Massoud (Jack Ryan TV show) will be playing Aladdin and Naomi Scott (Saban’s Power Rangers) will be our new Jasmine. I haven’t seen either Massoud or Scott in anything yet so I can’t judge but they better do a good job! Aladdin is my favourite Disney Film. Also slightly worrying is the fact that Guy Ritchie is directing. Does this mean all the characters are going to have east London accents?

Star Wars The Last Jedi

Now we get onto the big boys! I won’t say much about Star Wars as I will go on for pages if I get going. Instead I will let you watch the behind the scenes featurette that was released at the live-action panel. Rest assured it is awesome and gives us tonnes of stuff we haven’t seen before. Lots of intriguing shots, including both Rey and Kylor Ren fighting multiple assailants, lots of animatronic creatures and explosions!!! This film is only a few months away now and I expect another full trailer to be released at SDCC next week but for now, enjoy this awesome video.

I can’t leave Star Wars entirely alone though. Luckily we got a series of character posters released for the film, all of which look amazing. I still don’t get what all the red is about but they look beautiful even if all the heads have been cut off! Below you’ll see John Boyega’s Finn, Mark Hamill’s Luke Skywalker, Carrie Fisher’s General Leia, Daisy Ridley’s Rey, Adam Driver’s Kylo Ren and Oscar Isaac’s Poe Dameron.

Infinity War cast & Teaser

One of the biggest travesties in Geek history was the lack of live-streaming on the live-action panel. If we had this then we would have seen almost the entire cast of Avengers Infinity War line up on stage! Like seriously look! The only people that were notably absent were Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Chris Pratt and Zoe Saldana.

Disney's D23 EXPO 2017

It’s beautiful! Look how many heroes there are! And this isn’t even all of them!!! What is more painful is the fact that an Infinity War teaser trailer was shown!!!!! AHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!! I know some of the stuff that happens in the trailer but only because I was following the live tweets from people in the event. I won’t confirm any of it until the trailer has been officially released but rest assured it sounds incredible!! This film is set up to be amazing!!

We do have something little to quench our Infinity War thirst at the moment. The first official poster has been released and features Thanos wearing the Gauntlet! So he clearly assembles it during this film, meaning at least one Avenger dies, how else will Thanos get the gem out of Vision’s head?

Infinity War Poster

You can breath now! I’m going to go an cry in a corner until we get the panel footage! But before I go I thought I would show you a wonderful troll image posted just before the live action panel and the reveal of the Children of Thanos. The prevailing theory was that the statues were actually the Fantastic Four and that Marvel had made a deal with Fox to bring Marvel’s first family into the MCU! Well it’s not true but this image is wonderful!

I think it’s safe to say that this had been a bloody good event for reveals (even if the reports of it being poorly organised are true) There is something here for everyone and a couple of surprises too! We’re hoping that the Infinity War teaser gets released soon but if it is going to be I would expect it hold off until at least SDCC next week. That event is going to be huge if D23 is anything to go by! Not just Marvel and Star Wars but WB/DC, Fox, Universal and Sony will surely be rolling out the red carpet for some of their properties! Expect me to be glued to social media feeds even more than I was this weekend!
