How long will this casting last? In a surprise but awesome announcement, it has been revealed that Tom Hardy will play the title role in Sony’s recently announced Venom movie. We will be getting Eddie Brock/Venom on screen played by one of the most popular actors of the moment. How awesome is that?!

Hardy

Not a stranger to comic book films, Hardy is probably most known in recent years for his role in The Dark Knight as Bane and was cast as Rick Flagg in Suicide Squad before dropping out due to other commitments. He clearly has a liking for comic book movies and I for one can’t wait to see him in more. I am a little worried about this film in general purely because it’s apparently not going to be connected to Spiderman himself. I’m not certain if that rumour is true but if so, they’ve ruined the film before it starts. You can’t have a Venom film without a Spiderman connection! Plus I’m still hurting from the appalling treatment of the character in Spiderman 3.

Spiderman 3

The addition of Tom Hardy has lifted my spirits somewhat and the fact that it’s being helmed by Zombieland director Ruben Fleischer adds even more weight behind the project. I’m not going to talk about it too much now because we know almost nothing else about the film but I’m putting this on the ‘Not-too-sure pile’ for now.

From a comic point of view, Bane’s power is fuelled by the drug ‘Venom’ and now he is Venom, coincidence?

Venom is due to arrive on 5th October 2018.
