Well well well what do we have here? Another comic book show and one that nobody really wants on a network that nobody really uses! Already off to a great start, this show won’t get much traction until it gets poached by another network or streaming site. But all that aside, let’s take a look at the first official photo from the Runaways TV show from HULU.

Runaways TV

If you don’t know anything about the Runaways then this photo will tell you nothing other than they are a bunch of kids who have a wide array of hairstyles! To help you out the show’s synopsis is as follows;

After discovering their parents are super-villains in disguise, a group of teenagers band together to run away from their homes in order to atone for their parents’ actions and to discover the secrets of their origins

This actually sounds pretty interesting and I love the Runaways comics that I’ve read. There are some awesome characters and abilities in the team and I’m sure if the show gets a series run and maybe multiple seasons that roster will expand. For now let’s take a look at the main cast.

Rhenzy Feliz as Alex Wilder, a tactically minded geek, Lyrica Okano as Nico Minoru, a goth girl with arcane power, Virginia Gardner as Karolina Dean, an alien whose parents masquerade as popular actors, Ariela Barer as Gert Yorkes, an intelligent punk and the daughter of time-travelers, Gregg Sulkin as Chase Stein, a high school jock who is the son of super scientists, and Allegra Acosta as Molly Hernandez (Molly Hayes in the comics), the youngest member of the group who is endowed with super strength. – http://comicbook.com/marvel/2017/05/03/marvels-runaways-first-look-surfaces-online/

I think you’ll agree that most of these characters sound great. The only thing I’m worried about is the target demographic. As with Cloak & Dagger the show is clearly aimed at the young adult market which will mean a scaling back of the action, violence and some themes from the comics. It also means the show will inevitably focus on relationships and ‘youth issues’. Whilst this might not necessarily be bad, the recent 13 Reasons Why Netflix show perfectly displaying this can be done well, I have never been a fan of teenage angst shows.

Maybe I’ll be proven wrong, maybe I’ll be surprised, maybe the budget is big enough that the effects will outweigh any negative story elements? Who knows? Maybe the presence of a physically controlled Velociraptor will help draw me in? Shit that sounds fantastic! I’m going to check this show out if for no other reason than I am an addict for any adaptation of a comic book story, even if I have read it! Oh and James bloody Masters is in it! I’m sold!

Now, there is a teaser trailer that has been leaked but it has yet to be officially released so I won’t post it here. Just take this as a tease for the teaser!
