The Han Solo movie is finally underway! It’s about time too, we know little to nothing about the story of this film other than it’s going to centre around the young smuggler.

Apart from the casting of Alden Ehrenreich and Donald Glover as Solo and Lando Calrissian respectively, we have even had any concrete casting announcements. Emilia Clarke and Woody Harrelson are both set to star but their characters haven’t been officially confirmed yet. Harrelson himself has said he will be playing Solo’s mentor, a character originally from the old Legends EU, Garris Shrike.

Even though we know very little about the film we have had our first look at the main cast on set.

Ehrenreich, Clarke, Glove and Harrelson are all there along with Chewbacca (not Peter Mayhew sadly), in the cockpit of the Millennium Falcon. This confirms the ship will be featured in the film in some way. I’m assuming we will see Solo get the ship, winning it from Lando in a game of Sabaac, or will they change how he claimed the ship? Does Shrike’s inclusion in the film suggest Solo might steal the ship from his mentor when trying to break away? Who knows.

I’m struggling to get excited about this film. It’s going to have an uphill battle to achieve success as Han Solo is a defined character than in everyone’s mind is Harrison Ford. Even if the film is good the best it can be is an impression of Ford’s performance. I have a feeling this is why the supporting cast is quite large, drawing the focus of the titular character a bit might help soften the blow that someone else has stepped into the smugglers boots. Don’t get me wrong, I’m still going to see it, it’s Star Wars for crying out loud!
