The title says it all. Diego Luna is set to star in the new Scarface film. Confirmed as a re-imagining of the 1986 remake of the 1932 story, the focus this time will be on a Mexican immigrant instead of Cuban.
Does this mean no Tony Montana?! Have the filmmakers taken this approach to avoid upsetting those hardcore Pacino fans or those that see him and the film as the definitive rags to riches story? Whatever the reason I’m not it’s the right choice.
Don’t get me wrong, Luna was brilliant in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story playing the brace and fearless Captain Cassian Andor. But this role seems to be a bit of a departure for him. A challenge it will be, not just because he’ll be trying not to disappear into the shadow cast by Al Pacino. I’ll give it a chance, after all it does have the same write as Boardwalk Empire, Terence Winter!
What do you think? Is this going to be good or will it be another reboot that falls on its ass trying to recapture the spirit if he past? For now let’s just settle for Diego and his little friend being tested.
