Whether it was because Star Wars Celebration Europe had just happened, or whether it was planned all along it doesn’t matter, but we have our first glimpse at the new Star Trek series.
Star Trek Discovery
To be released on Netflix (which seems to be the go to path for any new show from an established universe) in 2017, the series will feature a brand new ship, crew and missions.
Check out the teaser below.
While still unclear when in the Trek universe the show will be set, we can make some assumptions.
The number of the ship is NCC-1031. With the Starship Enterprise from the original series being numbered NCC-1701, it is safe to assume that this ship came before, making the show a prequel.
In terms of design the ship looks less smooth and sleek and more angular, it even has a brownish colour instead of the fresh white/grey.
If this show is a prequel it will not fill the fans with confidence as we have already had the prequel series Enterprise with Scott Bakula as Captain Archer, which started well but quickly loss steam and was ultimately disappointing.
