Just in case you were thinking that there aren’t enough comic book related TV shows returning this autumn, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D is back! Season 2 ended with a bang with S.H.I.E.LD and the Inhumans coming to blows after Skye’s mother Jiaying manipulated both sides into fighting, and the release of the Terrigen crystals into the Ocean to be spread around the world. It’s going to be a whole new world!

Here’s 10 things we want to see in Season 3!

1.Skye/Daisy to be a Badass

The second half of season 2 saw Skye accepting her Inhuman side and learning to develop and control her powers. From the footage released so far we know that she is going by the name Daisy Johnson. This suggests that she has accepted who and what she is so its time for her to start kicking proper ass! Having her Inhuman powers on top of her already awesome agent skills makes for some exciting action scenes.

Her new outfit looks incredible and a lot closer to her comic counterpart than I thought it would. Most of Season 2 involved Skye figuring out her place in the world, so apart from the last couple of episodes we didn’t get to see her in action much. If the opening sequence of season 3 is anything to go by we are going to be seeing a lot more Daisy/Quake in action.

Ever since the first episode of season 1 there has been a budding romance between the resident nerds on the team.

The season ended with Fitz declaring his love for Simmons and then the both of them almost dying, leading to Fitz having brain damage and Simmons leaving to go undercover inside Hydra.

FSdrownSimmons has always been the one to hold things back between the two of them, but towards the end of season 2 she let him know that she did have feelings for him and that she did want something to happen. If only she hadn’t been eaten by the weird Kree weapon/tablet thing! The important thing is that Simmons will still be part of Season 3 and a proper Fitz / Simmons relationship needs to happen Fans have been screaming for it ever since we saw how cute they were together. Now is the time.

FShugThey both pretty much know how each other feels about the other and they are going to need each other more than ever in this new world.

3.Super-powered Simmons

I mentioned the Kree weapon.

Kree_StoneIn the finale of season 2 Fitz accidentally opened the containment box for the weapon/tablet thing that was being held on the S.H.I.E.L.D ship. When everyone else had left the room it broke out of the box and consumed Simmons.

agents-of-shield-sos-jemmaWhy did it take her? What is it going to do to her? It is supposedly a weapon designed to kill or restrain people with Inhuman DNA so does Gemma have to potential to be Inhuman? If not, what will it do to her being inside the thing? Will it give her some kind of power if she is able to get out of it? I for one would like to see Simmons with some powers. She has started to become less interesting now that she isn’t undercover and has just settled back into being the biologist expert on the team. This will add a little bit of spice to character.

4.Coulson’s new hand

During the fight with Gordon, Coulson is his typical self and with no thought for his own safety, dives to catch a Terrigen crystal in his bare hand so that it doesn’t break. Of course as we have seen numerous times throughout the season, if someone without Inhuman DNA comes into contact with Inhuman technology it won’t end well. As Coulson’s hand starts to turn to stone, Mack saves the day and his life by cutting off his forearm with an Axe.

coulsonhandSo now Coulson needs a new hand! If Tony Stark new he was alive he could quite easily design a prosthetic for him, which could have all kinds of cool gadgets built into it. Maybe Coulson will have developed a limited healing factor as a result of the T.A.H.I.T.I project. It has been referred to on numerous occasions that nobody knows the full extent of what the procedure did to him, maybe he has developed powers himself without even realising it. Maybe he will have a limb similar to those that Mike Peterson/Deathlok has, who knows? Whatever he ends up having should be awesome, and not just a replacement hand that looks like a real one.

5. Mack’s Axe

Mack is fast becoming one of my favourite characters in the show. At first it just seemed like he was a replacement for Trip when he was killed by the Diviner at the end of season 1. But it quickly became apparent that he was incredible smart and a brilliant engineer as well as being really good at keeping secrets from everyone. His and Bobby’s hidden agenda was teased from the beginning of season 2 and kept me wanting to learn more about what was going on. His flashback to the fall of S.H.I.E.L.D was really good and humanised him even more. He hatred for all things alien but still willing to do everything he can to protect people makes him a complicated character but with a strong sense of right and wrong.

agents-of-shield-season-2-finale-sos-mack-axeSeeing him fight Gordon with nothing more than an Axe was probably the best scene in the whole episode, and it looks like he is going to be very much on the front line in the new season as an active member of the new team. I can’t wait.

6. Secret Warriors

It has been confirmed that the new S.H.I.E.L.D team which includes both gifted and human members is taking its inspiration from the Secret Warriors from the comics.

secretwarriorsDaisy Johnson/Quake is a very important part of this team and it looks like this is going to be no different in the TV show. The opening sequence of season 3 that has been released shows this new team helping to extract someone who has just gone through Terrigenesis and his powers have emerged. It is unclear at this stage what the exact make up of the new team will be but it will feature old and new members some of which will have abilities like Daisy. I don’t think we are going to see any Secret Warriors member like Phobos or Hellfire, but there might be some similar powers on display. Characters like Stonewall could easily be put into the roster, and of course I doubt we will see Nick Fury himself leading them like he did during the Skrull Secret Invasion (though that would be pretty cool if he did!)

7. Grant Ward

Throughout the course of the show Ward has gone from super-agent reluctantly being part of the team to unpredictable murderous traitor and Hyrda poster boy. At the end of season 2 he pretty much appointed himself as a high ranking member of Hydra if not in charge of the whole operation,

MARVEL'S AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. - "S.O.S.," Part One and Part Two" - S.H.I.E.L.D. puts everything on the line to survive a war that blurs the line between friend and foe. Coulson and his team will be forced to make shocking sacrifices that will leave their relationships and their world changed forever, on the two-hour season finale of "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D," TUESDAY, MAY 12 (9:00-11:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network. (ABC/Adam Taylor) BRETT DALTON

This means that he will be causing no end of trouble for Coulson and the gang, Unfortunately, It will be interesting to see what he does in a leadership role as so far he hasn’t done very well taking orders or branching out on his own. It might be about time for Ward to exit the show in some way. If they decide to kill him off he deserves an epic death and presumably it will be at the hands of Skye/Daisy. I’m guessing he won’t be dispatched so easily as he is such a popular character, and the temptation will be to incarcerate him somewhere so that they can bring him back into the show whenever they want. They just need to do something different with him that doesn’t just make him a generic bad guy.

8. Coulson is alive!

This one is a bit of a stretch. It is about time that at least some of the Avengers know that Coulson is alive. I understand the logistical difficulties in terms of crossing the TV show over with the MCU but hear me out.

coulson-dead-jpgThe first season of AoS was really good leading up to the events of Captain America: The Winter Solider, and dealing with the consequences of that film make the show fantastic. Season 2 however did not such a good job with crossing over with Avengers: Age of Ultron. I know that the focus of the season was the search for the Inhumans and Skye/Daisy finding herself, but it is almost like the show runners forgot about the MCU. There was pretty much one scene where they acknowledged what had happened in Sokovia, and obviously the secret Theta Protocol was a direct link to the film but that was it. There were no real consequences for the Coulson crew as a result of the Sokovia incident.

agents_of_shield_phil_coulson-civil-war-to-begin-in-agents-of-shield-agent-coulson-the-mcu-jpeg-190330If Coulson revealed himself to be alive to the Avengers then it would change everything. The Avengers would have their trust shaken again, and it might even play a part in the Civil War that is coming. As time goes by it is harder and harder to explain why Coulson’s existence is no longer acknowledged in the MCU.

9. Civil War

If the show is still going to take place in the same universe as the MCU then it will need to cross over with Captain America: Civil War. It is only a few months away from being released and the film will have universe changing events, the show must deal with the consequences.

civilwarThis will be the perfect opportunity for Coulson to come back into the MCU fold and lend a hand to Captain America, because let’s face it, of course he is going to side with Cap! The whole superhero world is going to be shaken at its core and any trust the public will have for the heroes will be fragile at best. It’s going to be all hands on deck! And who doesn’t want to see Phil and Steve fighting side by side!

10. Crossovers

I had to include this one in the list as it’s something I always want and in this instance I think it could quite easily happen. I’m not talking movie crossover here (although I want that too obviously), the recent success of the Daredevil Netflix show is the perfect start for the TV crossovers that could rival DC/CW Arrow and Flash crossovers.

daredevil JessJ

We know that Daredevil is only the start of the linked Netflix shows, with Jessica Jones soon to air, and Luke Cage following sometime next year with Iron Fist not far behind. These shows are all doing their over cross overs but I think it will be a missed opportunity if they don’t link with AoS. Considering the reluctance to have the show have proper links to the MCU, it fits nicely with the Netflix shows who have teased that they are in the same universe as the films but so far have no direct references such as character cameos. It makes sense that Coulson would get wind of some gifted people in the heart of New York and investigate them so why not team up officially, especially in the lead up to Civil War.

The focus of Season 3 is clearly going to be the rise of new Inhumans,

InhumanslogoI sincerely hope that they deal with the subject properly and don’t just turn the season into a prequel for the Inhumans film which isn’t even going to be in production for a couple of years. All this aside, bring on Season 3!
