There have been rumours flying around the film world for a long time that Chris Pine (Star Trek) was being considered for a couple of different roles in upcoming DC films.

chrisPIt was heavily suggested that he was going to be taking on the mantle of Hal Jordan in the Green Lantern reboot scheduled for a 2020 release.

There were also reports that he was being considered for the role of Wonder Woman’s love interest Steve Trevor, for the stand alone Wonder Woman set to be released in 2017.

It has now been confirmed that Chris Pine has been cast as Steve Trevor!

Wonder Woman will be the first superhero film in the current generation of releases that has a female figure as its central character. In the comics Princess Diana is an incredible strong role model and one of the most formidable opponents for the various villains she encounters, and I for one can’t wait to see her on the big screen. We have already had a small glimpse of her in action from the Batman v Superman comic con trailer, but it is not clear what role she will play in the next instalment of the DCCU

3972107-1452201231-WondeSteve Trevor plays a important role in the comics, and not just for Wonder Woman. The character has filled many different positions in his time, whether it was as a government agent, super spy, or just getting into trouble so that Wonder Woman can rescue him, he is often integral to each story he is involved in.

steve-trevor-wonder-womanAt times he has also worked for Argus so this leads me to believe that this might be another link to David Ayer’s Suicide Squad film due for release in 2016 as Argus is the organisation that Amanda Waller is part of, and she is responsible for putting Task Force X together!

I would love to see Steve Trevor perhaps being involved with the Suicide Squad in some way, but at this point we know nothing of his involvement in the series. We know that Chris Pine has been signed on for a multi-picture deal so it looks like Steve Trevor is going to be having a fairly important role to play for quite some time.

I’m guessing that the Wonder woman film will feature some sort of origin/flashback for Diana involving Steve Trevor. In one version of her origin, Wonder Woman is responsible for rescuing Steve from a plane crash on her isolated island home and takes him back to “man’s world”. so this could be how we see Wonder Woman’s past being introduced as I’m assuming we won’t have a full origin in BvS.

Diana and Steve meet for the first time

My advice would be to look less for a love story between Diana and Steve and more for a mutual respect and liason between a new Superhero and Earth’ various governments and agencies.

However they introduce the characters I think Chris Pine is a pretty good choice! He has proven he can tackle action, spy-type thriller and also lighter comedic moments. So watch this space!
