I’m a bit behind the times here but recently in the magazine Entertainment Weekly, some new photos from Bryan Singer’s X-Men: Apocalypse were released. See them below!

The front cover of the magazine gives us our first official look at two new characters, Psylocke, played by Olivia Munn, and Apocalypse himself, played by Oscar Isaac. We also see that Michael Fassbender’s Magneto has a new look! An outfit that is much closer to that of the one that the character sports in the comics, there’s much more red for a start. Psylocke’s outfit also looks to be very close to her comic counterpart, complete with purple hair, katana and Psi-blade appearing to extend from her hand.

We saw some time ago some set photos of Jubilee (Lana Condor) in an outfit that is almost identical to her comic appearance, and this all ties in to the fact that Bryan Singer himself has said that the outfits in the film will be closer to what we have become used to in the comics. We get a closer look at Apocalypse inside the magazine and his look is…unique…let’s put it that way!

First look at Storm, Apocalypse and Psylocke

To be fair to Bryan Singer and the rest of the filming crew, Apocalypse is an incredibly hard character to bring to life. He is essentially an omnipotent, shape changing, reality altering super mutant. When you have a character that is able to alter the size and shape of any part of his body at will and, let’s be honest, looks ridiculous in the comics, there is going to be plenty of criticism when we finally see how he will look. It must be noted however that these are just still images, without any additional effects applied to them, we only have a rough idea of what he will look like and have no idea how his on screen abilities will affect his appearance!

In my opinion he looks ok, its a brand new mutant we haven’t seen in action since the 90s cartoon, although he is a bit too purple for my liking and doesnt appear physically imposing at all. In the above photo he is shorter than Storm! (cool new look for Storm as well! The Mo-hawk based on the Age of Apocalypse storyline in the comics is a wonderful touch!) Apocalypse is supposed to be terrifying in every aspect, and he is huge!! But his stature in these photos may be misleading, he might have altered his size for all we know.

We have had some new details on the story of the films as well. It has been 10 years since the events of Days of Future Past and various characters have gone their separate ways. Charles Xavier is working hard on his Institute for the gifted which is going well, Magneto has left his bad ways behind to live a ‘normal’ life and has fallen in love and Raven is on a mission of her own trying to rescue fellow mutants.

The arrival of Apocalypse changes everything, he gathers his Four Horsemen together in order to cleanse the world and re-shape it as he sees fit. These Horsemen will be Storm, Psylocke, Angel and Magneto! We will get to see new versions of Storm and Angel from the ones before, being played by Alexandra Shipp and Ben Hardy respectively, and Psylocke as a brand new mutant. The most surprising member of the team is Magneto. We know he has a very dark side but what makes him join Apocalypse? Are the horsemen under some kind of mind control? It all remains to be seen!

This is one I can’t wait to see and will be keeping an eye out form more news, be sure to check back here to find out more!
